my friend j.d. alerted me to the presence of a “broken” casio pt-7 keyboard/drum machine in bard’s free store, so we dashed over there and sure enough, there it was. i guess its previous owner threw it out because the totally sick keyboard’s connection to the circuitboard has been severed, and possibly also because the power supply connection is a little iffy. still, i put in some fresh batteries, opened it up, turned it on, and poked a few things. sure enough, a capacitor was loose, so i put that back in place and all good. next i started poking around with an alligator cable, and as with most anything casio makes, finding the circuit’s “hotspots” was simple; here, it’s a few resistors you can do just about anything with. this video mostly demonstrates the weird rhythmic sounds this thing’s been making, but keyboard sounds, loud drones, and painful squeaking noises have all been coming out. i have a few ideas for how i’d like to make some permanent alterations to this, mainly centered around making a controller that can be triggered by being hit in various places. anyway, if you find a casio thing, this is a thing you can do with it (or you can give it to me).
